The First Frost of the Season

Low: 33° F
High: 60° F
Conditions: Cool and clear

O, WILD West Wind, thou breath of Autumn's being,
Thou, from whose unseen presence the leaves dead
Are driven, like ghosts from an enchanter fleeing,

. . . .
Make me thy lyre, even as the forest is:
What if my leaves are falling like its own!
The tumult of thy mighty harmonies
Will take from both a deep, autumnal tone,
Sweet though in sadness. Be thou, spirit fierce,
My spirit! Be thou me, impetuous one!
Drive my dead thoughts over the universe
Like withered leaves to quicken a new birth!
And, by the incantation of this verse,
Scatter, as from an unextinguished hearth
Ashes and sparks, my words among mankind!
Be through my lips to unawakened earth
The trumpet of a prophecy! O, wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?
(excerpted from Percy Bysshe Shelley's, "Ode to the West Wind")

Good evening Ari.
Autumn has come.
Wonderful Harmony.
The birth in autumn is a discovery of the mushroom.

Poem and pictures were both beautiful!

I loved the Puppy Little story and the Wooly Bear study. Both made me smile!
You have such a nice way with words!

Frost? What is that? it's hot here...does frost mean cold? brrr...cold means I snuggle with mom in bed and I haven't started doing that yet.

Maybe you can share pictures of leaves changing?? Mom really misses that! She never sees leaves change in California. Autumn is her favorite season and it's not really a season here!!

Mmm I love your blog. I munched my way through all your prose right down to the dregs at the bottom of the glass and enjoyed every drop.
Old Perce has been a dear friend of mine for many years and your special friend (what breed is he precisely, a little towards blue heeler?)is a real doll.
I have no frost, only tulips and anemones.
Maybe you could both go Zen and learn to walk between the rain drops..oops I mean haycorns of course! Good luck!

Oh how I love this poem! Thanks for the reminder! Gorgeous photo. I love the autumn mist over the rivers in New England. Are you ready to "hunker down"?
