Untitled?

Dear Friends,
We need your help! As many of you know, Ari’s book will be published by Skyhorse Publishing and distributed by W.W. Norton in early Spring 2009. The manuscript includes some of our earliest blog posts (you can read a few of them by clicking HERE and then scrolling to the bottom of the page). These and other entries tell the story of the caninatuarlist's first year with us: her doggy antics, observations on the natural world, and more.

The book is almost done. We’ve finished the chapters; we’ve tentatively settled on cover art. All that’s missing now is the title.

Originally, we had intended to call the book Out With Ari: 12 Months as a Canine Naturalist, but the editorial staff at Skyhorse didn’t think it was descriptive enough in terms of the book’s content. Other possible names include:
Dog in the Woods
The Year of Living Off Leash
Lessons from the Field

We think they’re okay, but we’re not super crazy about any of them. That’s why we need you! What do you think we should call this book? It needs to be the kind of title that both makes people pick up the book in a bookstore and also says to the world, “hey, everybody, this is a book about a dog growing up in the natural world.”

We really want to hear all of your suggestions. We’ll even have a special prize for the title we like the best. And if the publisher selects your title, we’ll include you in the acknowledgements page and send you an autographed copy.

We can't wait to hear your ideas.

Thanks so much for your help.
Untitledly yours,
K&A

We really like "OUT WITH ARI" it has a great snappy ring. We would just change the subtitle. Maybe

"Nature Walks with a Dog"
"Observations of a Canine Naturalist"
"A Dog on Nature"
"A Dog's Thoughts on Nature"

we could go on and on. H-Mom will think about it.

How EXCITING! We are looking forward to seeing the book!

"Exploring with Ari"

We could go on and on, but not have anything really good. Can't wait to hear what you decide on!

I KNEW it! I just met you and have only had a chance to read a few of your posts but I thought to myself ... she's a writer. This is an eloquent blog and the story-telling is superb.

Congratulations on your upcoming book! How exciting.

Just thoughts:

Mainely Ari: A Year as a Canine Naturalist

or

Mainely Ari: A Year in the Field

or

Mainely Ari: Observations of a Canine Naturalist

I don't really feel qualified to attempt titling your book until I ready your entire blog though :) I love love love the idea of "Canine Naturalist" being in the title, however. It's unique and it's YOU. It would be a shame not to have it in the book's title or subtitle.

Best of luck!
Jackie

(oops! I just realized someone else had already mentioned Mainely Ari :)

Well, for what they are worth, here are some some goatly suggestions (or some variation thereof :) :

Through Ari’s Eyes: Reflections On Life and Nature

No Stone Left Unturned: Experiences In Canine Naturalism

Arudition: Lessons From A Canine Naturalist (the AR would have to be italicized or set apart in some other way)

Your devoted Ari fans like your title the best. That way you can update the title for book 2. Tell the editiorial staff thats the best one, the one we love and the one that they should keep.

Well, I will put on my thinking cap, but tell your publishers I like the original title. I think it is quite desciptive and catchy. Who's ever heard of a Canine Naturalist? It will appeal to nature lovers and dog lovers. Your writing style is so good that one only has to start reading to become captivted. I can't wait to see it in print!

Good evening Ari.
When the title of the book is considered, I think about the thing spelt the friendship of the world.
How is it about "Ari and wind where it walked" of the title if asking what is good here?
It thought about nature from assumption with emptiness, the wind, and water as the basis.
A wonderful book hopes for what a lot of people can see.

The bridge runs about the world.
Friendship is brought up by writing blog about many.
It comes to write an interesting thing also for the person who reads.
Therefore, I like blog of Ari. :)
